Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives

French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is a leading research organization dedicated to advancing the interests of the French State, its economy, and its citizens.

With a strong foundation in fundamental research, CEA develops practical solutions to address critical needs in four key areas: low-carbon energy, including nuclear and renewable sources; digital technology; future medical technologies; and defense and national security.

With nine research centers across France, CEA has established robust partnerships with numerous research organizations, regional authorities, and universities. Recognized as an expert in its core fields, CEA is deeply integrated into the European Research Area (ERA) and continues to expand its global presence. According to the European Patent Office (EPO) 2022, it is the leading French organization for patent applications in Europe.

Within SANE, CEA will play a key role in WP1 by conducting feasibility studies focused on e-fuel. This work will involve a macro-level analysis of various technological options, detailing their electricity and heat requirements and exploring the potential role of nuclear energy in supporting e-fuel production. In addition, CEA will contribute to WP3, concentrating on carbon capture and utilization, with a continued emphasis on the production of e-fuels.
