Karlsruher Institut Fuer Technologie

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), part of the Helmholtz Association, is a premier institution for higher education and research in Germany, recognized as one of the country's eleven Universities of Excellence.

With approximately 10,000 employees, 22,800 students, and an annual budget of €1.15 billion, KIT combines the missions of a university and a large-scale research institution, working across three strategic fields: Research, Teaching, and Innovation.

KIT’s commitment to top research, outstanding academic education, lifelong learning, and knowledge exchange fosters a culture of sustainable innovation. In the nuclear energy sector, KIT’s Nuclear Safety Research Programme (NUSAFE) is a distinguished, long-term initiative focusing on the scientific aspects of reactor safety and nuclear waste management. The research is conducted across six academic institutes, with strategic oversight provided by dedicated Program Management.

In the SANE project, KIT leads WP4 and actively contributes to WP2 and WP5. KIT’s efforts focus on enhancing risk communication, providing education and training, conducting high-fidelity multi-physics reactor safety analyses, and evaluating potential severe accidents and their radiological impacts in the context of novel reactor technologies.
